Course Topics
Environmental Justice Law and Policy
With increased focus on environmental justice in government decision and grant-making at the federal and state levels, many communities are facing difficult questions on if, when, and how to effectively engage with government on issues ranging from energy, climate, and environmental protection. This course explores the tools to effectively engage with government at all levels. The course will provide an overview of the federal and state specific laws, policies, and processes used by governments to consider and address environmental justice concerns. This course will explore how and when communities can be meaningfully heard in the decisions that affect them.
Environmental Justice Health and Leadership
This course prepares leaders for advocacy work, exploring the impacts of climate change on human health, the link between climate change and air pollution, and health disparities related to climate and pollution.
Clean Energy
This course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about clean energy technologies, as well as pathways for developing clean energy projects in their communities. Several trainings also focus on issues with existing fossil fuel infrastructure such as peaker power plants, as well as fossil fuel false solutions like hydrogen, and how these technologies can be replaced with renewable energy, battery storage, energy efficiency and demand response programs.
Building Organizational Capacity
Are you a grassroots organization or interested in building coalitions surrounding environmental justice? This course will provide you with an overview of strategies for community organizing and organizational growth.
Grants and Funding Opportunities
Are you looking for support in applying for funding or interested in learning more about how to identify grants and other opportunities to build organizational capacity? This series of guidance documents is designed to help you with everything from developing a budget, to project narrative, to funding sources.
